We are extremely proud of the strong links that we have with the armed forces and nearly 25% of our students already come from families where their parents/guardians are serving within these vital services. The work does not stop here. Students that come from services backgrounds make rapid and outstanding progress at the school. This can not only be evidenced through outstanding examination results for these students but also through evidence collated through student and parent voice.

Beyond the academic support we also offer ongoing pastoral support, taking the particular needs of forces children into account.

We are members of the HMS Heroes scheme ( https://www.plymouthcurriculum.swgfl.org.uk/hmsheroes/) and Mr Faulkner (who himself is ex forces) runs a weekly HMS Heroes meeting on a Monday after school. All students with links to the military are welcome to come along and enjoy some home baked cake and talk to other students who share similar experiences.

Furthermore, we also encourage students to engage in other opportunities that are available for service students as and when they become available.

Currently all of year 7 have been provided with a scrapbook in order to participate in the reading force scheme. You will find more information on this scheme here (https://www.readingforce.org.uk/)

Another example of a current opportunity that has presented itself is the Creative Forces Day.

10 of our year 7 students will be accompanying Mr Faulkner on a Creative Forces Day at Bath Spa University on the 18th November. This will give the students an opportunity to talk about exactly what support they would like to see within schools.

We will obviously endeavour to use this feedback to provide further opportunities within school
