Curriculum Intent

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) education are key to our student’s Personal development, underpinning learning in the classroom, school and the wider community. In line with the school’s ethos of wanting to create thoughtful global citizens our PSHE curriculum is tailored not only to meet statutory requirements of RSHE and Careers education, but is also aligned to advice and guidance from The PSHE association.

Furthermore, our PSHE curriculum reacts to the specific needs presented by our students and the wider community. Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education ( PSHE) allows students to develop the knowledge, cultural capital, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe.

Additionally the aim is to prepare students for life and work in modern Britain. Taking complex and rapidly changing influences into account we aim to offer the following:

  • The opportunity to fully explore the three strands of PSHE; Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World
  • An understanding of Mental Health and Wellbeing and how this should be respected and protected.
  • The opportunity to develop empathy and tolerance, enabling them to become emotionally aware and respectful young people.
  • The ability to make informed choices to keep themselves healthy through diet and exercise
  • The ability to make informed choices to keep themselves safe
  • An awareness of diversity in terms of race, culture, religion, gender and relationship, preparing them to become thoughtful global citizens that are aware of individual’s rights.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and risks modern technology provides and strategies to keep themselves safe.
  • Preparation for life beyond Stonehenge with thorough knowledge of career opportunities and pathways.

The measure of success should be evident in our student’s ability to tackle barriers to learning, raised aspirations life chances and ultimately happy and secure young people.
