Curriculum Intent
The History Curriculum at Stonehenge School is designed to engage, excite and empower students with the study of History. We aim to provide an inclusive curriculum which represents our school community, giving all our pupils the understanding of their place as global citizens in the world they live in.
Our aim through our programme of study is to ‘Think Big’ and develop a good depth and breadth of knowledge and skills. The curriculum is sequenced to develop a passion for lifelong learning through the gradual development of ‘Second Order’ skills, such as Cause and Consequence, Change and Continuity and Significance. Students will also be exposed to an elevated level of historical and conceptual vocabulary as they learn to analyse and evaluate a broad range of sources and historical interpretations. This will help to develop effective literacy skills that creates learners who have the knowledge to write and speak confidently and effectively in History.
Our curriculum choices are intentionally aligned to a broad range of historical themes which provide a foundation to promote a sense of challenge. We ensure by the end of their study of history at The Stonehenge School that our students have a broad and detailed body of historical knowledge that covers key aspects of both local, British and world history, to give them an understanding of the influence of different peoples and places on both our own and other diverse cultures.
