Our school

an insight into who we are

We are a truly comprehensive school, catering for both boys and girls between the ages of 11 to 16. Our total number on PAN exceeds 1000 pupils meaning that we are a large secondary school serving the local area. We have students across the entire ability range and we offer provisions that can stretch the highest achieving students as well as those with learning difficulties or disabilities. We have invested considerably in all of our facilities, with two new state-of-the-art buildings that have fully enhanced the student experience and the curriculum we offer. This includes specialist and bespoke teaching spaces that particularly provide excellent facilities for the arts subjects. There has also been sizeable investment in Information & Communication Technology to support learning across all subjects, and Sports facilities to enhance our extra-curricular offer and variety of sporting activities.

Lifelong Learning

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

Qualifications are highly important, and our examination results reflect our commitment to this. However, school is also about preparing students for their future career and roles in the larger community.

Students are offered many opportunities to develop team working and leadership skills.  Students can initiate projects and share decision making through an active School Parliament. The House system allows for team-work and problem-solving to be developed throughout all years, creating a sense of community. In Year 10, students are invited to apply to be Ambassadors fulfilling a range of roles to support each other and key areas of priority in the school. The prefect team in Year 11 is led by the Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies. In addition to this we train groups of Year 9s and 10s to be Mental Health Youth Champions, as well as Bold Voices ambassadors to promote equality through the student body.

Careers guidance is provided in Years 10 and 11, and we have strong links with colleges of Further Education and a range of businesses and careers who work with our pupils.

Think Big

EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROVISION

Throughout the year, a large number of clubs and activities are delivered by our teaching staff as part of our extra-curricular provision. This includes clubs related to subjects, sporting activities, academic support, as well as those that have been created based on student voice and demand. A large number of students enjoy taking part in activities throughout the school year, including drama productions and musical concerts. Individual music tuition is provided to over a hundred children.

We have excellent sporting facilities on site and at Amesbury Sports Centre, as well as exclusive use of the 22 acre playing field on Holders Lane. We run many sports teams and offer a number of extra curricular sporting clubs, including rugby, netball, hockey, football and cricket.

Trips and visits are run regularly; Year 9 can visit Pencelli Activity Centre in Wales and there are a wide number of residential trips offered by subjects, such as trips to Barcelona for Languages, New York for Business Studies and STEM LIVE trip in London for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. There are regular Geography field trips and History students have the opportunity to visit World War 1 battlefields in Belgium.

The Duke of Edinburgh award is offered at the Bronze and Silver levels, with lots of Year 9s and 10s developing key skills via the expeditions and other challenges that they complete.
