Guy Walters, TV presenter and author of numerous books on World War II, visited the school to talk to year 9 history students. Pupils have been studying the war, and Guy spoke to them about the real facts behind the famous Great Escape of 1944. We had watched the famous movie based on that event, and were fascinated to hear Guy explode a host of Hollywood myths, including:
•    Most prisoners of war did not want to escape at all.
•    Even if it succeeded, the escape would not have helped the war effort.
•    The famous tunnels were much more disgusting than they seemed on film!
The students really enjoyed the talk, and asked a lot of intelligent questions.
