Festival of Remembrance

Mr Vickery our Progress Leader for Year 9 was was selected from a shortlist of volunteers from across the West Midlands and South West to represent St John Ambulance in the Muster at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. It involved travelling up to London on Friday lunchtime and attending rehearsals; managed by the BBC, into the evening.

This is the tale of his weekend - After getting up at 5.45, we arrived at the Royal Albert Hall for more rehearsals; including a full dress rehearsal before the afternoon’s matinée performance; attended by RBL members and the public. The evening performance; attended by the Royal Family, the Prime Minister and Royal British Legion members, is the one that forms the bulk of the televised event. It’s an amazing event; and sharing in the Muster with serving and veteran members of HM Armed Forces, the Emergency Services and other Civilian Services was brilliant. It’s an event that was full of emotion and memories that I will treasure and hold forever.

I was also fortunate to be invited to participate in the Remembrance Parade down Whitehall, past the Cenotaph on the Sunday. Another amazingly emotional, stirring event. Having the opportunity to represent St John Ambulance; an organisation with whom I have volunteered for well over a decade, at these national events was fantastic, and I’m honoured, blessed and privileged to have had the chance to participate in these prestigious and important ceremonial events.
