Statutory at KS4, pupils will continue on with 1 lesson a week and will either sit the short course "Edexcel Religion and Life" exam at the end of year 11, or may complete the Entry Level. Topics covered include: Believing in God, Marriage and the Family, Community Cohesion and Matters of Life and Death. Each Topic is approached from the student's own point of view, societies point of view, the media's point of view, as well as looking at the Christian and Muslim response to these issues.
Philosophy and Ethics (option)
Pupils have the opportunity to choose Philosophy and applied Ethics as one of their GCSEs. The subject is a real opportunity for pupils to explore a number of topics in depth, developing their own ideas, evaluating others and learning how to express themselves effectively. The department tries to deliver the course in an interactive manner with plenty of opportunity for debate as well as practical work. In the 2 years the course has run it has been successful, both years achieving around 90% A*-C.
